I tend to side with you, Ryan, in your arguement with your band director. A
composer couldn't possibly every put everything that you need to know within
the 5 lines and 4 spaces that he has in staff paper; dynamic and tempo
markings only aid a little.

Would you director honestly say that a knowledge of Mozart, his
life, his times and, with Mozart, most importantly his personality, not aid
you in playing anything he wrote?

Any musicial interpertation based only on the score will lack
something.
