Playing jazz (New Orleans oriented, like Joe Darensbourg f.i.) I have no
experience in
glass/crystal mouthpieces. But:
In the 80s I got acquainted with Kenny Davern, to my opinion one of the
world's best
jazz clarinetist in the traditional line and an outstanding expert in all
questions about
clarinet "hardware" problems. He does the facings for his mouthpieces=
himself.
The Vandoren Company started to produce a rubber mouthpiece with the
measures of Kenny's
personal mp in 1980 (?). Kenny gave me one from the first produced series.
It is called Vandoren 5JR and they still offer it.
Coming from a Selmer E mp I liked the 5JR much better giving freedom for all
different tone
colours of jazz with a much better control in all registers.
So why not try a vandoren 5JR while snipe hunting?
