David,
I wasn't suggesting Drexel for people interested in performance,
but, rather, for those who might want some sort of dual major. Also, I
don't know that we can say it is not a good music program, yet ; the major
has just been instituted in the last couple of years (I spoke with Al
Blatter, the Head of the Performing Arts Department, last month, and he
told me that they now have twelve music majors!).
When I went to Drexel, there was not a music major, but there was
more than "just a band, and some history, theory courses" - besides a band,
there was an orchestra, a top-notch jazz band, an incredibly strong gospel
choir, a varsity chorus that travelled to Europe, the Colonial Ensemble, a
guitar ensemble, recorder ensemble, and a ragtime band. Al Blatter was
very inerested in electronic music, and we had a state-of-the-art
electronics lab.
If you really want to find out what the program is like, maybe you
could take a walk down the block and find out!

(Incidentally, I also worked at Penn for three years after I graduated from
Drexel.) -SDM
