It's true. Here's a brief quotation from the Kennedy Center's web site:

"With the announcement that the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing
Arts will stage at least one free performance every day of the year and
open a new downtown facility for discount tickets, the national center's
chairman, James A. Johnson, today launched Performing Arts for Everyone,
nine initiatives to expand and increase access to the performing arts for
local Washington residents and visitors to the nation's capital."

You can find more details about the new Kennedy Center program by starting
at <http://www.kennedy-center.org/>.

Also, I agree with the suggestion that someone visiting the Washington area
should pick up a copy of a newspaper to learn about the local arts scene.
Get the _Washington Post_, and you'll have a comprehensive listing of all
musical events in the area. For advance information outside of the area,
check out <http://www.washingtonpost.com/> or one of the two major
classical radio stations in the area:

- The major commercial station WGMS at <http://www.wgms.com/>
- The major public station WETA at <http://www.weta.org/>

The Post and the two radio stations all list some local musical events on
their web sites.

Have a nice visit.
