The parents of one of my young beginning students have commented that he
seems to have suffered three succesive runs of strepht(sp) throat
soon after beginnning the clarinet. They were wondering .. can the
bacteria (?) that cause the disease live in the "throat" of the clarinet
and re-infect their son? I have always claimed that I was immune to all
sax and clarinet germs[ ;-)] having sampled many horns and set-ups of
others w/out a worry. Anyone with real medical knowledge please jump
in. As an aside, I am quite certain from all I've read that HIV will
not transmit in normal saliva contact. Again accurate information would
be a great help.
