Ken,

If you go to prep school at Manhattan then you should know it does not
have any dual programs!!:) There is a dual lessons program with
Barnard, but not Columbia college (which unfortunately for you, being a
guy,
cannot take advantage of). There is a similar program with Columbia and
Juilliard, however, this year they are limiting the program to two people
each year. The program administrators at Juilliard are really difficult
to work with, so essential all you get are lessons and seating auditions,
and it will be very rare to play in the orchestras. If you are
already studying with someone you like in NYC and you would like to
continue on at a College not a conservatory, than its probably less of a
hassle to just take privately. There is a dual program which is better
than Juilliard at New England Conservatory (and Tufts) that is a five-year
program. Northeastern also has a really good program. However, beware of
the dual program!! They are all difficult to schedule, etc. make sure you
talk to people at these various schools before making any real decisions.
Charlie Neidich is at Yale for this year while David Shifrin is on leave,
I believe that both rarely take freshman, although I don't know, and I am
not sure who the other teachers are right now.

Good luck with all this stuff, it can be really difficult to get straight
answers sometimes!!
