Two comments-- where can I get ahold of these compositions? Would a
larger company such as Byron Hoyt here in the SF area have them?
My conductor (abd we're fortunate!) prefers original band compositions to
arrangements, much to the delight of the low woods in our band.
Second, there are a handful of arrangers who do take great care to
arrange for *all* the instruments. I'll have to get the name
later, but one arrangement of Shostakovich's 2nd I played had
a wonderful bass clarinet part. However, I'd say that easly
90% of band arrangements I've played had the low woods doubling with
the tubas, which is not unlike being a delicate butterfly in the
midst of an elephant rampage.
