Subj: the month of march
Date: Wed, 19 Feb 1997 14:17:56 -0500

i read something yesterday that said that march is the month of composers
& also women's history month. so!!! if you all know of any women
clarinet composers out there, let me know. actually, if you know of ANY
women composers, let me know. i haven't come across many. don't say
hildegard von bingen (that's obvious), or shumann's wife (it Was shumann's
wife, wasn't it, who composed?).
another favor to ask: i just began teaching lessons (soprano clarinet)
to a freshman in high school. she's actually pretty good. i think she's
better than i was my freshman year. anyways, since all the contests are
over and everything, should i work on scales with her, or solos, or should
i integrate everything? i guess i'm asking because i really am not sure
of her level and practice habits yet (i've only had one lesson with her).
once i teach her some more, i'm sure i'll get an idea of what to work on
with her. are there specific exercises i should have her do daily? like
here at UNT, we have a clarinet handbook with exercises. it would be
alright if i used those; wouldn't it?
well, i have to go now.
wish me luck: i have a lesson today and i haven't had any time to
practice (TMEA and all).
