Subj: Leblanc basset horn question...

For those of you who own or work on a Leblanc basset horn, can you play
a low C with just your right thumb alone, or do you also need your right
pinky on the C#?

It seems to me that when I first purchased my basset horn I could play the
low C with just the thumb, but now after some work has been done on the
instrument to open the clarion C (chalameau E) I can no longer play the
low C with the thumb only, but need to push down on the C# pinky as well.

Is this right?!
