Looking over my previous message, I think I left my question unclear so allow
me to paraphrase:

1 Given that I seem to be able to get the same type of sound from close and
open facings by reed adjustment and

2 It appears that I can find a greater percentage of workable reeds for a
more open facing (luck?)

what is it about close facings that people like?
