Subj: intonation question
Date: Mon, 17 Feb 1997 17:40:33 -0500

I'm an amateur who has been trying to work on my intonation for
awhile and I have a problem that has been resistant to all my feeble
attempts at fixing it - I'm interested in finding out if there is
a common mistake that I've fallen into.
Part of my daily practice routine is to use a tuner over the full
range in intervals to improve my intonation. As I gather is fairly
common, the very low notes (E, F, Fsharp, and G) are flat,
while the altissimo range is sharp. The problem: the B, C, Csharp,
and D an octave above middle C (same fingerings that were flat without the
octave key) are all very flat. I've been able to improve
intonation everywhere else but here with practice. Any suggestions?
(if it will help: I play a Selmer series 9 (original barrel) with a
Gigliotti mouthpiece and Vandoren V12 #4 reeds)
