IC>Hi there,
IC>
IC>OK if you want to get on to the show circuit you have to be prepared
IC>to treble. The new London Production of Guys 'n Dolls had one
IC>seat of Barri Sax, Clarinet, and Flute. Basically if you want to work in
IC>this field the first thing you need is a van, then you need all the
IC>Saxes, all the clarinets, Flute, Oboe, and Bassoon, @-----. &
IC>Rubber embouchure.
IC>
IC>Has anyone got any comments on this.
IC>
IC>Also is it true or just a rumour, that you can buy single reed
IC>adapters for the Oboe/Bassoon/English Horn etc.???
IC>
IC>Best wishes agus Slan Abhaile,

YUP, it is so true.
There was a (great paying) chair in "Crazy For You" 2 years ago
that had Picc/Flute/Eb Clar/Bb Clar/Alto Sax & Penny Whistle.
It took 1/2 hr just to set-up and pack-up after, but in
retrospect, it sure was a lot of fun. And a bit of a challenge: try
playing some nice, delicate flute after jamming an Eb clarinet in your
face for a while!
But even when you can play all the instruments well, it's still
difficult to get the show work.

I did once see a tiny, single reed bassoon mouthpiece. But as
someone else said, "Why didn't these things catch on?"
