There is no "right and proper" setup for a trio (or most any other group,
he said, expecting to be contradicted). However you'll probably find that
having the viola and clarinet behind the piano doesn't work very well. ;-)

I just played the Schumann Fairy Tales (is that what you're playing?), and
we found the best setup was with the violist more or less directly in front
of the pianist (so that the instrument is turned to face the audience) and
the clarinetist in front of the curved part of the piano (or a bit closer
to the violist). We stood, but if you're uncomfortable standing I'm sure
noone will object if you sit.
