They were manufactured in the 1950's in this country, but I had thought
they were no longer available until a couple of years ago when I found
that they were still being marketed by Santy Runyon, also manufacturers of
saxophone mouthpieces and other woodwind accessories. However, they were
never very successful, in that the the instruments no longer sounded
characteristic. Also, I'm not sure it would be possible to find single
reeds to fit them.

All in all, there is probably good reason why they never caught on.
