I once had to go to a clarinet lesson with a novocaine'd upper lip. My dentist
assured me it would have worn off but must have miscalculated. I can say with
some authority that an embouchure with an anaesthesised upper lip does not
produce a satisfactory sound. In fact it doesn't produce any sound at all on
the Clarinet. It's great for blowing raspberries at your teacher while trying,
though :)
