Bill....my advice is to relax and breathe naturally. Few phrases in clarinet
music really tax the normal persons lung capacity. See a doctor if you have
breathing problems, otherwise the clarinet shouldn't tax you so much.

Perhaps your reeds are too hard!

One approach would be to find an experienced teacher and work with the Rose
or Baermann etudes to learn proper phrasing. That should really help.
