Ben,
Thanks for the tip; I'll look for it.
Bolcom is one of my favorite people. In 1984 he wrote a piece for
me entitled, "Little Suite of Four Dances for Eb Clarinet and Piano" (Marks
Music), which I'm crazy about. (I premiered it at a recital at Caltech
in June of 1985).
In 1987, at another recital, I scheduled the following four of
his works, which comprised the second half of the program:
1. "Aubade for Oboe and Piano;"
2. A reprise of his "Little Suite...;"
3. "Second Sonata for Violin and Piano," Movement IV: "In Memory of
Joe Venuti;" and
4. "Afternoon Cakewalk": A Ballet Suite of Rags Arranged for
Violin, Clarinet (A and Eb), and Piano.
Since then I have appropriated the violin part to his "Graceful
Ghost Concert Variations," which I have performed shamelessly on C
clarinet (minus double stops) on a number of public occasions.
I look forward to hearing his concerto.
Regards,
Connie
