The lips get chapped because they are accustomed to producing more skin as
a result of clarinet playing. The vibrations of the reed wear away the
excess skin, but if you take off a few days, the skin is still being made
at a higher level - chapped lips occur then.
$3 or less for the eyeglass screwdrivers at most any drug store.
Get the M.P. recorked ASAP - you don't want the last bit to fall off when
you really need it, and it may be causing a leak as it is now.
