Klarinet Archive - Posting 000242.txt from 1997/02

Stan has voiced in ways far better than I have the problems with
many clarinet students (and music students) being turned out by the
handsful from schools today. They are ill prepared both intellectually
and emotionally to enter into a playing career, and for all the
reasons that Stan mentioned and more. They may be clarinet playing
wizzards, technically, but they have little substance and often wind
up teaching the clarinet in small schools in Texas or New Jersey or
someplace (not that this is a bad thing to do, but it is not what
they wanted to do) not really knowing what went wrong.
