Is there is any validity to the belief that the material from which
the body of a clarinet is made affects the tone? I will not argue the case
either way, but it is my hope that it is so because I've spent a lot of
money on wood clarinets.
Assuming that is the case, I would propose that the structure of the
wood as well as its chemical make-up should both have an effect on tone quality.
If one took the wooden bars (what do you call them?) off of a Deagan
marimbaphone and ground them up, mixed them with polymer and reformed them
would the tone be affected?
