Because of the slash and burn method of land clearing and the extremely
long period of time to grow blackwood the threat of extinction is quite
real. I have an old "snowy" copy of the tree of music which is a very
interesting documentary on the problem. African blackwood is also a very
sought after carving wood in addition to its other values. I have a book
mark at home that has much of the same information about blackwood as the
PBS movie. I will try to remember to post when I get home.
