As anyone who's been able to see the PBS "Tree of Music" special about
the Grenadilla trees in Mozambique certainly remembers, about 1O% of
Buffets instruments-in-progress apparently fly apart on the lathe. So the
Green. instr's make sense as much from a commercial point-of-view as an
altruistic one. In fact, a Buffet rep.told me last week that even in the
successful instruments, some huge percentage of the wood from a rough
block of Blackwood ends up as shavings on the shop floor (I think 8O or
9O %). So if these clars play as well as R13's, it should make us all
happier; we'll have a longer supply of wooden horns before the trees run
out, and Buffet will make more money from their inventory!

BTW, I mentioned that there had been some frustration on here trying to
figure out the difference between all of their current models, and he
said he'll look into responding on-list. We'll be waiting!

Cheers,
P
