On Don Byron, see http://www.windplayer.com/wp/byronprofile.html.

Byron has made several important recordings with guitarist Bill Frisell
that have not been mentioned (or did I miss that in the archives?). "This
Land," on Elecktra Nonesuch, is good, but "Have a Little Faith" (same
label) is extraordinary (with Byron on bass cl. and soprano, plus Frisell's
guitar, accordion, drums and bass). Check out Byron's playing on "I Can't
Be Satisfied," Sonny Rollins' "No Moe," their astonishing cover of
Copland's "Billy the Kid," and especially a "Washington Post March" that
will have you up and marching no matter how many years it's been since you
were in marching band with that metal clarinet freezing your fingers. (Not
to mention Charles Ives, Bob Dylan's "Just Like a Woman" [they come close
to redeeming this irreparably sexist song -- it helps that the words are
left out], and Madonna's "Live to Tell" -- altogether as good a paradigm of
postmodernism as you can find anywhere!)

Now a question: Are there any recordings of Don Byron playing Klezmer
music?
