Peter,
I grew up in Milwaukee, WI and had to take the city bus (2
transfers) to high school (1 hour trip). With walking for the bus and
waiting I was outside for a while with my clarinet (R-13). I used to wrap
it in newspaper inside the case, a single french style case. The winter
weather in Milwaukee is cold (32 or colder). I'm not sure where I got the
newpaper idea, but I never had my clarinet crack. Sometimes I would keep
the clarinet inside my coat if it was really cold (0). What about trying
those heat packs that you microwave for a minute and they stay warm for an
hour (Actually, I never thought of that before - what a good idea!).
