From: "Dan Leeson: LEESON@-----.EDU> Subj: Greg Baker asks about Mozart on the B-flat clarinet Date: Mon, 3 Feb 1997 14:19:32 -0500
Greg asked if any recordings had ever been made of the Mozart
repertoire on the B-flat clarinet, and I presume that he means
the solo music written for A clarinet in the first place.
The answer is yes and no.
No in that no one, as far as I know has ever recorded either the
concerto or the quintet on anything other than an A clarinet.
Yes in that music-minus-one did release a recording in the 50s
of the string quartet accompaniment of K. 581 pitched in a key
that would allow a clarinetist at home to play it on a B-flat
instrument.
Whether this was done electronically or if the strings really read
from transposed parts is not known to me.
