I2> I have to play a 5-10 minute piece at a local junior high
I2> school. The band director has recommend that I do a piece
I2> that is less serious and more fun and comical....something
I2> that would grab the attention of the kids......any recommendations?

I am now a high school freshman, but I'll tell you some of the "fun" pieces
I've played in middle school (jr. high).
Forrest Gump, Music from the Motion Picture Soundtrack
A Symphony of Sit-Coms
And now my favorite:
Faculty Versus Band: The Final Conflict
This piece is more of a novelty piece, but kids will have fun
with it, staff will have fun with it, and the audience will
enjoy it. Here's how it works:
Students play an introduction (mostly half/quarter/
and eight notes. Then there is a short "march time"
section, in which one faculty member has a symbol
solo. This person misses the solo twice, and on the
third time when he/she gets it, the band stands up
and claps. Then comes a quicker tempo, mainly with
eigth notes. At certain times, faculty members pop
balloons, paper bags, etc.
I really enjoyed playing it, and it's good for grade 5-8.
Let me know if you want publisher info.
