When I was in High School, we wore white gloves as part of our uniform. Of
course, the clarinetists had to cut the ends off of the fingers (on the
gloves, that is!), so it sort of defeated the purpose a bit. But the keys
are metal, anyway, and if you are playing the instrument, it usually stays
warm enough!
As for metal mouthpieces (below): at least they keep the clarinetists from
licking frozen sign posts!

P.S. I apologise for the other reply that did not contain my post: the
keyboard keys that "reply" and "send" are right next to each other and I
accidentally hit them both in succession! The reply was sent before I even
SAW it!
