Hi,
I have a wooden B Flat that I bought in 1943 from musician who
said it had belonged to a member of Jack Teagarten's band. He said
it wad a Buffet second that had been smuggled into th USA during the
1920s. The only marking it has is a very light stamp saying "Peate's
Music House - Utica N.Y." Can any of you historians tell me
anything about this clarinet. It is full Bohem and has all the
apearance of the Buffets of that time. What made it a second I have
not been able to discover but the pros tell me there a couple of notes
that are a little off. My poor ear cannot detect it. I would
very much appreciate anyone telling me more about this
clarinet.
My teacher in the early 1930s was named Tommy Thompson. He played
solo clarinet with Mr. Sousa during the season and taught at the
Laurence Consrvatory in Appleton, Wisconsin during the off season. I
would really like to know more about him.
I was pleased by some of the comments on the net about
Ham/Clarinetists. My call is WB6KXQ Adv. I taught Novice/ Tech
classes for several years. I only work two meters and 220 in my old
age.
