Dirk Kussin asked about music shops in Paris. Here is one:

Feeling Musique: 61 Rue de Rome, 75008, Paris
tel: 01-45 22 30 80
fax: 01- 45 22 40 18

When I was in Paris last year I tried about 25 Bbs there (at Feelings). All
were high-pitched unfortunately. I borrowed the best one and played it with
the group I was with in Paris (we were there recording a cd at IRCAM) and the
pitch was way too high.
There is another wind store near Feelings on Rue de Rome with many clarinets
but its name escapes me at the moment. There are also sheet music stores on
Rue de Rome. (Rue de Rome is la rue de la musique, quoi!)
Because of the strength of the French franc in relation to the Canadian
dollar nothing was cheap (except the wine of course!).
Good luck. (I will be in Paris In September on tour with Nouvel Ensemble
Moderne so I will drop in on the same stores. Hopefully the Canadian dollar
will be a bit healthier).
Simon
(PS I heard after the fact that the French factories have American-pitched
instruments if you want to try them. In fact my prestige R13 was bought in
the manner).
