A question was raised about Schubert's "Shepherd on the Rock", originally
looking for a work for soprano, clarinet and 'cello. The edition I have of
this work (Augener Edition, by Stainer & Bell, Ltd. of London and Galaxy
Music Corporation of New York) includes a 'cello part as alternative to the
clarinet, along with the soprano and piano.

I've never heard this work performed with 'cello and have no idea whether
this is Schubert's idea or some editior along the way. Does anyone know if
Shubert intended that either clarinet or 'cello could be used?
