My opinion is based entirely on personal experience. I have about zero
knowledge of acoustics. It is probably the case that I have played only
on pretty bad student model plastic instruments (my first was a Bundy)
and pretty good wooden ones (Buffet R-13s). I guess my main point is
that an adult beginner would be better served by getting a decent
instrument, and that a teacher or experienced clarinetist could help
evaluate instruments available locally.
