Peter,
I have been having the same problems with v12s #4 for a while now.
I think that the cane is very porous. One solution is to rub the front
of the reed with the back of sandpaper or your thumb(I prefer sandpaper)
before playing. This closed the pores so that they don't get water
logged. I find that I have to do this each time that I play for the
first few times though.
