Tom Brook, in Santa Fe, recently sent me a tape of a dramatic cantata by
Meyerbeer entitled "Gli Amori di Teolinda" (The Amours of Teolinda), for
soprano, clarinet and orchestra. I thought I knew most of the clarinet
literature, but this work was new to me. About 40 minutes long, it
apparently was written by the composer for Heinrich Baermann and soprano
Helene Harlas in 1816, while Meyerbeer was in Venice. The demands on
both the soprano and clarinet are quite impressive. A CD is still in
print on Orfeo Records (Polydor), with Jorg Fadle on clarinet (I just
ordered it through 1-800-75MUSIC). Has anyone on the list ever performed
the work, or heard a performance of it? Where can the music be found?

Thanks,

Jim Lytthans
