I think actually he was trying to suggest, in gentle fashion, that
such remarks are ill-considered. I don't believe he meant to impugn
your integrity. Perhaps one ought likewise to be careful about
saying things such as:

which is arguably like a colorblind critic suggesting that a certain
painter was more interested in shapes than color.
