I apologize if this has already been sent; I've just got a new Email server
and address, behavior is unpredictable right now, so I'll try this once more.

I have just received information on the 1st Carl Nielsen International
Clarinet Competition, to be held in Odense Denmark June 13-22 1997. Any of
you with advanced students under the age of 30 [born no earlier than June
13, 1967], or who are actually this young [!] may wish to check this out.
I have the application form and the Rules pages, and would be happy to fax
them to you, if you Email me your fax number. The deadline for
applications being received in Denmark is February 15, so there is a bit of
a rush.

A few more particulars, for those interested:

Application must include:
-copy of birth certificate
-copy of music examination certificate [I think they mean a diploma
from a music school
-brief curriculum vitae [150-200 words]
-three recent B&W photos 9X12 cm
-entance fee of $70
-a cassette tape of the following works
-Stravinsky: 3 pieces
-Mozart: Concerto, 1st mvt, from bar 49 [w/ piano accpt]

There are four rounds.
The following works are all required in round 1 [w/ piano, & you must bring
your own accompanist]:
-Mozart: Concerto, 1st mvt, from bar 49
-Poul Ruders: Tattoo for One [this piece will be sent to the
selected participants upon request after March 1]
-Carl Nielsen: Concerto, the first cadenza from the 17th bar after
number 7 to Tempo I
-Debussy: Premiere Rhapsodie

Round 2 [with piano]:
-one of the following:
Brahms: either Sonata
Niels Gade: Fantasistykker op 43
Schumann: Phantasiestucke op 73
von Weber: Grand Duo op48
NV Bentzon: Sonata [edition Wilhelm Hansen]
Poulenc: Sonata
Lutoslawski: Dance preludes

Round 3 [unaccompanied and wind 5tet]
1. one of the following:
Berio: Sequenza IX
Boulez: Domaines
Edison Denisov: Sonata
Alexander Geohr: Paraphrase on the dramatic madrigal Il

Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda by Monteverdi
Ingvar Lindholm: America
Lars Graugaard: Calling Angels
Stockhausen: In Freundschaft
AND
2. Nielsen: Wind Quintet op 43, 2nd mvt [menuetto]

Round 4
-Mozart Concerto
-Nielsen Concerto

1st prize: Danish Kroner 125,000 [about $20,000 U.S., I believe]
2nd prize DK 75,000
3rd 50,000
4th 25,000

Also there will be concert and recital engagements for the winner[s].
