This discussion really interested me, so I decided to find out what the
male/female ratios were in my band. Here's what I found, by section: (this
might totally bore some of you, but since I did it for myself I though I'd
might as well share it).

flutes 1 guy.........9 girls
oboes 1 guy.........2 girls
bassoon 3 guys........0 girls
clarinet 9 guys.......10 girls
bass cl 3 guys.......0 girls
alto sax 9 guys.......0 girls
tenor sax 3 guys.......0 girls
bari sax 0 guys.......1 girl
trumpets 15 guys.....1 girl (and SHE's the section leader!)
horns 2 guys......2 girls
tenor brass 7 guys......2 girls
tuba 4 guys.......0 girls
perc 13 guys......2 girls
total 70 guys....29 girls

I don't think these are average numbers, considering the overall ratio is so
off (and it doesn't agree with what everyone else's been saying), but hey,
I'm a girl, so I'm not complaining!
