Yes, I think I can probably tell some notes on a clarinet by the way
they sound but only relative to the clarinet. To distinguish an A
clarinet from a Bb you would have to combine that skill with the
absolute pitch of the note being played. I think you have already
said that this is easier for pieces that you know. So I think I can
understand how this is possible.
