This past week, the Los Angeles Philharmonic premiered a work written and
conducted by its musical director Esa-Pekka Salonen entitled "LA Variations."
My concert-going spies tell me that it includes a wonderful contrabass
clarinet solo. Lending credibilty is a review in the Los Angeles times
noting that "LA Variations sounds original in great part because of the
brilliant orchestration. Salonen knows what his concertmaster and first
trumpet can do and then puts them together in ways other composers without
such players on hand would likely never imagine." If Salonen could pull that
off, a contrabass clarinet solo should fit right in. Any input from the
folks in the Los Angeles area?

(FYI, my contrabass clarinet is still for sale!)
