Klarinet Archive - Posting 000281.txt from 1997/01

Thanks to all the people who posted (legitimate) responses to my
question about the metal clarinet I got for Christmas:)
As to those of you (cough cough Scott Morrow) who used my message as
comedic material--you're welcome for the subject matter--have at it!!
(the lamp thing was really cute)
And to all those who are becoming annoyed with the
clarinet/lamp/light bulb wisecracks, I offer my apologies and accept
full responsibility for the monster I've created!!
Seriously, for anyone looking for a metal clarinet or wondering about
them, they, or at least the one I have, do not sound all that different
from an intermediate model wooden clarinet, and the keys and mechanism
on mine works just as well or better than the modern wooden Selmer I
play on. It's also really pretty and fun to show off! So lamp or no
lamp, silver clarinets are pretty neat to have. And if you really want
to make a lamp out of yours, it looks better if you get an old, junky
looking one, because a nice one might be too tempting to play. Though I
don't play mine very much because it smells like old metal, but what do
you expect !?!
Patiently awaiting the arrival of THE PERFECT REED,
Lyndsey Thornton
