A difference in taper of barrels should be considered. some barrel
makers manufacture barrels specifically for A and Bb (perhaps just a way
to make more dough). the length of the barrel is important too. it seems
that the large concensus is to use a barrel one mm shorter in the A than
on the Bb . i do agree that it is a whole lot easier to change barrel/mpc
as a unit, especially at the beginning of the Brahms third symphony.
