I did a web search for community bands, and I found a zillion of
them. Also, some church's have groups that play for church services
and various events. You could check out the performance calendar in
your local newspaper. Around here (and I suspect this is quite
common), nonprofessional groups are always doing free concerts.

My situation is similar to yours. I started playing the clarinet
again about 1.5 years ago after a 10-year break. I would love to
play with a group now, but I have an 8.5 month old son, work
full time, and am trying to finish an MA in English. For now,
practicing is motivated generally by a fussy baby, as my son never
fails to calm down when I start to play.
