Hi, all. This is my first posting to this list, though I have been hovering
on the fringes for a bit. I fall into that seemingly not uncommon category
of those who played with some degree of proficiency through their teenage
years or early 20s, stopped for whatever reason, and decided to start
blowing again a couple of decades later. I've been re-playing for
approximately 4 months now. Accompanying the expected technical problems
(flabby embouchure, uninspiring tone, creaky fingers) is an even more
frustrating one, a lack of playing companions. I'm willing to play anything
from duets to orchestral music to pop tunes, but have not been able to find
a group. I wash regularly and brush my teeth, so that shouldn't be too much
of a problem. Does anyone have advice as to how to go about finding playing
partners? Either general ideas or hints regarding opportunities specific to
the Washington, DC/University of MD area would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much.
