Klarinet Archive - Posting 000195.txt from 1997/01
From: Paul Lindemeyer <paulwl@-----.NET> Subj: Conn Propeller Wood Clarinet? Date: Wed, 15 Jan 1997 15:32:23 -0500
During the 1940s, the Conn Company made clarinets of light brown wood
supposedly bought from Hamilton Standard, a maker of aircraft
propellers.
What kind of wood was this? Was grenadilla unavailable during World War
2? Where does it come from? Are these particularly good or particularly
not-so-good instruments?
Thanks in advance.
