I have used rubber cement. You have to apply it like contact cement, a
thin coating to both surfaces and let them dry for a few minutes, then
place the patch where you want it. You roll the excess cement off the
mouthpiece beak once the patch is in place (rubber cement just rolls off
when you rub it). I also use CLOTH-backed double-sided tape (the plastic
rug tapes get wet and come off). I don't know if either of these will stick
to the back of a commercial patch, which already has an adhesive on it.
