As a saxophonist/clarinetist, but one without much classical training, I
am interested in French vs. German classical clarinet playing and
whether there is any appreciable rivalry between them.

The classical saxophone community seems to be split pretty badly along
similar lines, with its own "French" and "German" schools, which barely
acknowledge one another.

What are some of the differences in tone, technique, setup, etc? Is one
school significantly more prestigious or better respected than the
other? How do clarinetists get along? (Better than saxophonists, I
hope.)

Thanks in advance for your insights...
