Jon,

If you're not ready to play Poulenc, then you're also not ready for the
Nielson either. The Nielson is extremely challenging, more so than the
Copland. The Hindemith and Lutoslawsky were good suggestions. Also there is
a piece by Berg, Vier Stucke (4 pieces), which are actually very lyrical and
tender dispite their a-tonality. The Berg and Lutoslawsky movements are also
short, which brings me to my next point.

Usually audition tapes should be only as long as the auditioning requests
requests. Like ten minutes. They generally want only different stlyes as
see that you understand them and that you are experienced and well rounded.
Unless it is otherwise stated, only do one movement of each. They won't
listen to a recital's worth, so don't kill yourself prepring an hours worth
of material. Call and ask the how long the tape should be.

If your audition is indeed in person, you will need to be truely prepared on
all movements you list for then. So again, I advise you to stick to only one
movement in each style. They will appreciate brevity, and you will be better
prepared.

Best of luck
Erica
