I am pleased to announce that a new cd featuring bass clarinetist Michael
Lowenstern has finally been released. The disc is called "Spasm," after the
title work for bass clarinet and tape by Mr. Lowenstern. I have a copy of the
disc sitting in front of me. The label is New World Records and the call
number is 80468-2. I urge everyone who has an interest in the possibilities
the bass clarinet holds as an instrument to buy the disc. Showing this kind
of interest will allow other, similar discs to be made in the future. It will
also permit you to hear some astounding virtuosity on the instrument.

I won't bother to describe the works on the disc now, except to say that they
run the gamut stylistically and are most engaging. All of the works are
either by Lowenstern himself or were comissioned by him.
