Dont know about US colleges BUT I, like you have always had a very
fast single tongue. I've never encountered anything that I couldn't
single tongue on clarinet or saxes. When I try double-tonguing it is
slow and I get a 'quacking' sound. In almost 25 years of clarinet I've
never needed double tonguing.
I have an interesting problem though in that on the flute, my
single tongue is very much slower and I have to resort to double
tonguing constantly. I have not been able to figure out what I am doing
differently on flute that it is so much slower. Any doublers out there
have a thought?
If there is any connection, I also have a lot of trouble flutter
tonguing on single reeds and flute as well.
THANKS!
