I have not found the name in any book on music. There were many (hundred's
of ?) composers writing for the basset horn in Eastern Europe, and people
made hand made copies of hand made copies, sometimes with their own name, so
that it is hard to decide whether the name belongs to the composer of the
copyist. moreoover the spelling of names was very variable. Rare parts can
be found in Prague (the Count Pachta collection for instance) but also in
other countries (Roumania for instance). I recently found two quartets for
clarinet and strings in Einsiedeln, a monastery in the Swiss alps, and
thought that C.A. Gopfert was an unknown composer. In this case, it turns
out that I was incorrect; he is known, often with the spelling Gopfart.
Incidentally these two quartets are also in Guy Deplus's CD.
This CD is easy to find in Paris, but, as far as I know, this CD is not yet
available in the US. The small firm which made it is called Quantum, and I
have no idea which their representative in the US is. On the other hand, the
CD is in the Vandoren catalogue, so maybe it can be ordered from the US in
this way?
best wishes Franck
