I apologize for the delay in responding to the question regarding the
Orchestral Audition Competition at ClarinetFest '97. Our university
server seems to have taken Christmas vacation a bit early. Information
about this competition is contained on page 30 of the most recent issue
of THE CLARINET. All requested excerpts are to be 1st clarinet parts as
stated in the announcement. The other question was regarding the "flute
measure" in the Firebird Variation. I think you are referring to 1
measure before rehearsal #14. Yes, you must play this on the tape. Be
sure to play the entire variation of the 1919 version. I think the
corrections have been discussed rather thoroughly on the bulletin board
recently. If you do not have access to a part, the entire variation is
printed in the International Orchestral Excerpts Volume 1, pp. 30-31.
Good luck and practice slowly!!! BOB
